Memorial Day Tradition -- Record Shopping

Each year I celebrate Memorial Day by doing the same things...

I drive to San Francisco and attend the USS San Francisco Memorial Ceremony. My grandfather was on that ship during World War II, and fought at the Battle of Guadalcanal.

Then I drive to Berkeley, and exercise the freedoms that have been provided to me by people like my grandfather. First, I stuff my face at Top Dogs on the most epic hot dogs money can buy. Then I walk down to Telegraph Avenue and go music shopping. This year's haul looks like so:

CDs –

Mary Lambert - Heart On My Sleeve

Good Riddance – Peace In Our Time

Faith No More – Sol Invictus

Murder By Death – Big Dark Love

The Lemonheads – Rockin' The Shell (The Classic 1994 Radio Broadcast)

Vinyl –

The Lemonheads – Luka 7”, red vinyl

Stormtroopers of Death / Yellow Machinegun – Seasoning The Obese split 7”, clear yellow vinyl

The Wynona Riders – Music That's Pleasant to the Ear EP

David Bowie – Loving The Alien, 12” odd shaped picture disc

Tin Machine – Maggie's Farm, 12” odd shaped picture disc

David Bowie – Interview, 12” picture disc

I plan on following that up today by hitting the gym, possibly buying some new storage boxes for my 7” records, then canceling out the work I did at the gym with a huge breakfast burrito.

Happy Memory Day. Celebrate accordingly. :)
